CARTSS welcomes community support for faculty, undergraduate and graduate social science research and teaching initiatives as well as support and involvement in developing projects extending beyond the university campus and benefiting the broader community. Please contact the Director to discuss your ideas on how to strengthen the ties between the social science disciplines and the community.
Faculty Research Support
Support for faculty research is provided in a number of ways, including support of graduate students working with faculty on research and teaching projects.
The CARTSS Scholars program is a competitive grant to support work of social science faculty, particularly projects involving the participation of graduate and/or undergraduate students in research. CARTSS Scholars present their work to the campus community during the academic year.
The CARTSS Seed Fund provides start-up funds for planning interdisciplinary projects involving faculty from one or more social science departments and colleagues from other fields.
The CARTSS Graduate Fellows initiative is designed to help social science graduate students preparing proposals for external funding support or conducting research for their Masters or Doctoral degree.
Teaching Initiatives Support
CARTSS is participating in the campus-wide project on Learning, Teaching, and Assessment sponsored by the President’s Office and the Provost.
CARTSS co-sponsored presentations and workshops on teaching and learning by Lee Shulman, President of the Carnegie Foundation, Prof. Eileen Lewis, Berkeley, and Eric Mazur, Harvard.
How to Apply:
Please electronically submit (in Word) a 3-5 page double spaced proposal describing the proposed educational purpose, participants, budget and a brief CV (3 pg max) for all faculty participants. Proposals are accepted each semester.
Research Organization Support
CARTSS provides an organizational home and staff support for the Ethnographic and Evaluation Research group, a nationally recognized research team conducting evaluation research on a wide range of externally-funded national, state, and local projects.
CARTSS also serves as the organizational home for the Conflict Research Consortium, a long-standing CU research unit co-directed by Heidi and Guy Burgess. The Consortium is involved in data collection, research, and training on conflict research issues, supported by external grants from state and national foundations and funding agencies.
